Following Two Record Years: Port of Aalborg Continues to Grow in Its 550th Anniversary Year

Growth continues at Port of Aalborg, which this year celebrates its 550th anniversary. The port has set revenue records in each of the past two years, and the positive development is continuing.

In the first half of 2026, Port of Aalborg generated revenue of DKK 154.2 million, corresponding to growth of 10 per cent compared with the same period in 2025. Profit before tax amounted to DKK 28.4 million.

“It is highly encouraging that, on top of the progress achieved in recent years, we continue to move forward. The companies based at the port are thriving, new activities are continuously being added, and cargo volumes are growing. At the same time, we hold a strong position within the green transition, particularly in the wind industry. We therefore stand on a solid foundation that bodes well for the future,” says Nuuradiin Hussein, Chairman of the Board of Port of Aalborg.

More wind turbine blades shipped than in the whole of last year

Port of Aalborg has developed into a significant hub for the wind industry. Around 60 per cent of the port’s business area of approximately 5 million square metres is dedicated to the production, testing and storage of large-scale components, particularly for offshore wind, and this has also had a positive impact on quay activity in 2026.

During the first half of the year alone, almost as many offshore wind turbine blades were shipped from Port of Aalborg as during the whole of 2025, and as of today the 2025 level has already been surpassed by a considerable margin. At the same time, the year has also seen further shipments of transition pieces produced by CS Wind Offshore for Vattenfall’s German offshore wind farm project, Nordlicht 1 and 2.

“There is renewed momentum in offshore wind, and that benefits us. We already have a strong position in Aalborg, where the wind industry plays a major role, and at the same time we have both the space and the opportunities to scale further. We are therefore well positioned for both Vattenfall’s upcoming Danish offshore wind projects and the many international projects supplied by companies based at the port. When the wind industry grows, it also creates activity for a wide range of subcontractors and other businesses around the port,” says Kristian Thulesen Dahl, CEO of Port of Aalborg.

However, wind turbine blades are not the only contributor to the positive development in cargo volumes, which increased by 20 per cent in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year.

“The growth is mainly driven by higher volumes of bulk cargo such as grain, animal feed products, soil and aggregates. This has also increased activity at our subsidiary Aalborg Stevedore Company, which gained new facilities when we consolidated our operations at a single location earlier this year,” says Kristian Thulesen Dahl.

Major expansions underway

The property leasing business has remained stable in 2026. Demand for paved areas close to the quays remains strong, and Port of Aalborg has commenced the construction of additional capacity at the so-called Omni Terminal. At the same time, work is progressing rapidly on a major quay expansion project comprising 500 metres of new quay and approximately 60,000 square metres of adjacent quay-side area.

“Our location outside the city provides us with excellent opportunities to expand our capacity and meet demand from businesses across North Jutland for, among other things, hard-surfaced areas. In that context, the new quay will play an important role. In addition to becoming a central part of the infrastructure supporting North Jutland’s first large-scale CO₂ reception facility, it will significantly increase our quay-side capacity. This will enable us to play an even greater role in future offshore wind projects and other space-intensive activities,” explains Kristian Thulesen Dahl.

The new quay is expected to be completed in autumn 2027.
