Rail partnership between Aarhus and Aalborg strengthens business in Northern Jutland

Port of Aalborg and APM Terminals, which operates the container terminal in Aarhus as an independent division of A.P. Moller – Maersk, have entered into a strategic partnership on a new weekly rail service between Port of Aalborg and APM Terminals Aarhus.

The new rail service expands the logistics options available to businesses in Northern Jutland. Going forward, they can use both the direct feeder service to Hamburg and the direct rail connection to Denmark’s largest container port in Aarhus and the international transport networks linked to it.

The new rail service gives businesses more options when moving goods into and out of the region, while strengthening the link between Northern Jutland and international supply chains,” says Michael Rosenkilde Lind, Sales Manager at Port of Aalborg.

More efficient use of infrastructure

The partnership supports the broader transition towards shifting more freight from road to rail. The new rail service makes it possible to move some container transport between Northern Jutland and the rest of the country from trucks to trains.

For APM Terminals, the partnership is about creating stronger connections between the container terminal in Aarhus and businesses across Denmark.

Initially, the train will arrive and depart once a week. During the coming period, the partners will also assess market demand and the potential for additional departures.
