We wish to be a transparent and responsible company
In the business park at the East Port of Aalborg, maritime service specialist Kongsberg has identified a new niche. As a result, the company has signed an agreement with Port of Aalborg for an additional 700 square meters of warehouse space.
Kongsberg, which in Aalborg offers sales, service, and workshop activities primarily related to the group’s propulsion products, is now expanding into a new segment.
The new business focus is the rental of specialized tools, and growth in this segment has been so strong that the company now requires more space. Therefore, Kongsberg has entered into an agreement with Port of Aalborg for an additional 700 square meters of warehouse capacity.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, we launched a new business line—specialized tool rental—and it has grown very positively. It is also an area that requires significant space, and we are therefore pleased to expand further with these new facilities, which we very much need,” says Peter Studsbjerg, Managing Director of Kongsberg Maritime Denmark.
In many ways, the company reflects Aalborg’s industrial transformation. After many years of operating from Aalborg’s central waterfront, Kongsberg—formerly Rolls-Royce Marine—relocated all its North Jutland activities between 2019 and 2021, moving about 10 kilometers east to Port of Aalborg’s business park at the East Port.
“The significant urban development along Aalborg’s central waterfront made it less ideal for a service and industrial company like ours. We are very pleased to have established ourselves in a growing industrial area, where we benefit from excellent facilities and, not least, proximity to many exciting companies with which we can collaborate,” says Peter Studsbjerg.
He adds that Kongsberg in Aalborg plays an important role within the group, not least because of access to highly skilled and qualified labor.
Investing in the Future
The new facilities for Kongsberg are located directly adjacent to the company’s existing premises at the East Port. This was made possible because, when Kongsberg first moved to the site, Port of Aalborg ensured that the land area was utilized to its maximum potential, allowing for future expansion.
“When building the original facilities for Kongsberg, we decided to future-proof the site immediately, and we are very pleased to now finalize an agreement for the remaining square meters as well. This shows that the company is thriving and growing, which is exactly what we as a business park aim to support in the best possible way,” says Jeppe Faber, Senior Commercial Manager at Port of Aalborg.
Kongsberg’s facilities at the port, which house 60 employees, now comprise a total of 1,400 square meters of workshop and office space and 1,800 square meters of warehouse space.
