HJHansen’s Investment in Aalborg Bears Fruit with Largest Vessel to Date

HJHansen Recycling Group has just handled its largest vessel ever in Aalborg, a deep-sea vessel carrying 13,000 tonnes of ferrous material for recycling. It is the first time the company has carried out an operation of this scale in Aalborg.

– Our new site in Aalborg is a strategic investment for us. We now have the facilities needed to handle larger volumes and larger vessels, which strengthens both our own business and the solutions we can offer our partners. This vessel is an important indication that the investment is developing exactly as we had hoped, says Rasmus Skou Oldenborg, Commercial Director at HJHansen Recycling Group.

At its new location, HJHansen Recycling Group has direct access to the quay, making it possible to create a more efficient logistics setup. The site also makes it easier to consolidate materials from both Northern Jutland and the rest of Scandinavia in Aalborg before they are transported onwards for recycling.

Strategic Investment Delivers Results

Last week’s vessel operation is the culmination of several years of collaboration between HJHansen Recycling Group and Port of Aalborg to strengthen the framework for increased activity in Aalborg.

For Port of Aalborg, the development demonstrates how investments in new business areas and port infrastructure can be translated into tangible commercial activity.

HJHansen’s presence at the port contributes to increased cargo throughput, more vessel calls and further strengthens Aalborg’s position within recycling and the circular economy.

Shared Focus on Recycling

Port of Aalborg also sees broader environmental perspectives in the partnership. HJHansen Recycling Group’s site forms part of a quay facility that was constructed with a significantly lower carbon footprint than traditional infrastructure projects of this type, thanks to a strong focus on recycling and reduced emissions.

For Michael Rosenkilde Lind, it is particularly pleasing that the facility is now being used by HJHansen Recycling Group.

– There is a strong link between the purpose of the quay and HJHansen Recycling Group’s business. We have invested in more environmentally responsible port infrastructure, and the site is now being utilised by a company whose business is built around recycling and circular value creation. That aligns well with our ambitions as a port, he says.
