DAO establishes parcel centre in North Jutland at the East Port

The distribution company DAO, owned by JP/Politikens Hus, JFM and Berlingske Media, is ready to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing parcel post sector in Northern Jutland. DAO has just moved into a new 1,853 square metre warehouse facility at Østhavnen in Aalborg, which will be the company’s distribution centre for parcel shop mail in Northern Jutland.

– It’s about removing some limitations and thus optimising and, not least, future-proofing our operations in Northern Jutland. This is crucial for us as we are experiencing strong growth, especially in the parcel shop area. At our new location, we don’t have to take the same considerations for residential areas as when we had a more urban location, and this means that we can handle our North Jutland operations in the way and at the times that make the most sense, says Christian Roland, Head of Transport and Terminals at DAO:

– In this way, we can optimise our operations in North Jutland. In other words, we can drive as much to and from as we want. It has also been crucial that the new facilities provide us with better access conditions to handle access for modular trailers of more than 25 metres and our floor trailers.

DAO sorts its parcels at a centralised warehouse, after which they are transported to terminals throughout the country. Here, they are unloaded and driven to one of DAO’s parcel shops, where consumers can collect or send their parcels.

– We have 15 parcel vans on the road across North Jutland every day, delivering parcels to and collecting parcels from our parcel shops in the region. We also collect parcels from a large number of e-commerce companies in North Jutland, which we collect at our new terminal at the port and send on to our sorting centre,’ explains Christian Roland.

DAO’s new North Jutland terminal will be the starting point for around 40 employees, and the new facilities have room for more if needed, says Christian Roland.

Port of Aalborg, which rents the new warehouse, is delighted that DAO has moved in.

– We are very pleased that DAO has chosen to locate its North Jutland terminal with us, and we hope that we can help support their growth ambitions through our strong framework, unique warehouse building Harbour Storage and good location close to the E45. We know that DAO’s presence in the business park will benefit many existing and new customers, says Jeppe Faber, Senior Commercial Manager at Port of Aalborg.

According to the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority’s latest report on the state and development of the Danish postal market, 185 million parcels are sent around Denmark every year, and DAO is among the largest carriers in the parcel sector.
