We wish to be a transparent and responsible company
The multi-terminal has been a huge success ever since it was built in March 2017. Consequently, we are now doubling the terminal in size by adding an extra 17,000 square metres of hard surface.
Both short and medium-term agreements for paved storage capacity in the harbour area are a great hit at Port of Aalborg. In response to the demand, Port of Aalborg erected a 16,000-square-metre multi-terminal next to the container terminal back in 2017. However, since then, the demand for hard surface storage has grown out of all proportion, prompting Port of Aalborg to expand. And, now that Port of Aalborg’s board of directors has approved the plans for adding a further 17,000 square metres to the multi-terminal, the expansion is a reality.
– The multi-terminal has been a huge success from day one and the demand for hard surface storage in the harbour has only increased since then. This is really positive and Port of Aalborg would like to meet the demand to secure even better conditions for our clients’ operations. So, we’re now expanding the multi-terminal considerably while, at the same time, working to prepare a nearby area for potential further expansion if the demand continues to increase, explains Michael Rosenkilde Lind, Commercial Manager at Port of Aalborg Logistics, and he continues:
– The multi-terminal is particularly attractive due to its situation close to both the harbour and the freight terminal, giving our clients the opportunity to use the area for both existing and new types of cargo and for intermediate storage in harbour areas.
Better interaction with the freight line
The expansion gives the railway track a key location at the multi-terminal, and part of Port of Aalborg’s expansion plan is to invest in an upgrade of the track by adding tram tracks.
– The tram tracks make it easier to handle loose freight and will make the freight line more versatile. In general, the expansion will enable us to make better use of the freight line. Firstly, there’ll be more room to handle freight and, secondly, we’ll be able to access the wagons from both sides, says Rasmus Munk Kolind, Commercial Manager with responsibility for the freight line at Port of Aalborg Logistics. He goes on to say:
– The development ties in very well with the increasing demand we are noticing for the freight line. The volume of freight is growing and the interest in the freight line is generally on the increase, so I believe we’re facing an extremely exciting 2020.
