Stable, high cargo activity, land sales, and a growing leasing business – particularly driven by the wind industry – meant that Port of Aalborg continued its positive development in 2025 following the record year of 2024.
Port of Aalborg celebrates its 550th anniversary this year, and the port has entered the anniversary year in excellent shape.
In 2025, the port generated revenue of DKK 290 million, meaning that Port of Aalborg set a revenue record for the second year in a row. At the same time, the Port of Aalborg increased its annual result by 13 per cent to DKK 62 million – corresponding to DKK 72 million before tax.
“The financial results are very satisfactory and exceed our expectations for the year. This is further evidence that our development is on the right track. We offer highly attractive logistics solutions, and we are also skilled at meeting the strong interest from the business community in establishing activities at the port. This applies whether it concerns short- or long-term leasing solutions or the acquisition of land for the establishment of, for example, offices, warehouses or production facilities,” says Nuuradiin Hussein, Chairman of the Board of Port of Aalborg.
The financial results are positively affected by high demand for the port’s properties and storage areas, as well as one-off income primarily from land sales to customers wishing to establish themselves in Port of Aalborg’s growing business park.
Leasing business grows alongside the wind industry
In 2025, Port of Aalborg expanded its leasing business. In early summer 2025, the port delivered a new storage area of no less than 390,000 square metres forstoring wind turbine blades from Siemens Gamesa. This further underlines the port’s status as an important hub for the wind industry:
“Today, almost 60 per cent of our commercial area of approximately 5 million square metres is allocated to the production, testing and storage of large components, particularly for offshore wind. We hold a particularly strong position in the wind industry due to our experience and unique opportunities for expansion near the quay. We are therefore very pleased that in 2025 we have both delivered and invested in new, attractive facilities for the wind industry at the port, while at the same time setting a record for wind turbine cargo handled across the quay,” says Kristian Thulesen Dahl, CEO of Port of Aalborg.
In addition to the new storage area for wind turbine blades, Port of Aalborg also expanded its leasing business in the autumn with a new 30,000 square metre omni-terminal to meet demand for paved areas close to the quay and railway.
“The new terminal area has been developed for companies requiring large, flexible areas for interim storage and dispatch of goods. The entire terminal area is already fully let, and we have therefore begun planning an expansion,” says Kristian Thulesen Dahl.
Port of Aalborg is also in the process of a major quay expansion, which is expected to be ready for use during 2027 and will open up additional quay-side commercial areas aimed, among others, at the wind industry. The quay expansion has received support from the EU through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), as it forms part of the CO₂ infrastructure project Norne Carbon Storage Hub, which has been designated an EU Project of Common Interest (PCI).
Positive development in bulk cargo and container traffic
2025 was characterised by consistently high vessel and cargo activity, with 875 vessel calls and 2.4 million tonnes of cargo. In addition to growth in cargo related to the wind energy industry, there has been continued progress in grain and feedstuffs as well as dry bulk products. Conversely, fossil fuels show a declining trend, with petrol and diesel for retail decreasing by 5 per cent – a consequence of the national shift from petrol and diesel cars to electric vehicles.
The port’s container terminal is experiencing moderate growth, with a total increase in container volumes of just under 10 per cent. As a result, Port of Aalborg has increased container revenue by approximately 50 per cent since taking over operation of the terminal from Royal Arctic Line in 2023.
“We are on the right track at the container terminal, but there is still significant untapped potential. Fortunately, we are seeing increasing interest from shipping companies, freight forwarders and the business community in North Jutland,” explains Kristian Thulesen Dahl.
The positive development continues into 2026.
“After the first quarter of the new year, we can clearly see that the positive momentum from 2025 is continuing. 2026 is both an anniversary year and the year in which we can truly realise the opportunities as a state-owned industrial park. We therefore expect increased attention to the opportunities available to companies at the Port of Aalborg,” concludes Nuuradiin Hussein.
