A new collaboration between Port of Aalborg and Norlys means that electric trucks will soon be able to charge at Rørdalsvej in Aalborg. The project is part of Norlys’ nationwide expansion of charging infrastructure for heavy-duty transport and aims to support the green transition in both the transport sector and the port’s business community.
As early as the first half of 2026, Norlys expects to open a new charging station with truck chargers on Rørdalsvej at Central Harbour, near the motorway, where the company has leased land from the Port of Aalborg. The site will feature two 400 kW chargers with ample space for heavy vehicles, turning lanes, and easy access from both the East Port and the motorway. Service facilities will also be established, including a restroom building, allowing drivers to combine charging with breaks and rest periods.
The Aalborg charging station will be part of Norlys’ national expansion of charging infrastructure for electric trucks, which also includes stations being established in Randers, Herning, Vejle, and Padborg in collaboration with the Danish Road Directorate.
– We are building ahead of demand because we want to help drive the green transition. With the charging station in Aalborg, we’re getting closer to the businesses, both those already using electric vehicles and those preparing for a technological shift. We believe that accessible infrastructure can remove many of the barriers that haulage companies face today. That’s why we’re working across the entire ecosystem: we’re building public charging stations, but also helping businesses and operators install chargers at their sites, says Ellen Trolle, Director of Norlys’ EV charging business.
Today, around 900 of Denmark’s more than 43,000 trucks are electric, but the share of electric trucks in new sales is steadily increasing, driven by government subsidy schemes and stricter climate requirements.
Shared Ambitions for a Green Transition
Port of Aalborg sees the new charging station as an important step towards supporting the green transition of companies at the port.
– Several companies in and around the port have already installed their own charging solutions, but it’s crucial that publicly accessible options are also available along the route. This benefits not only businesses in our business park but also the North Jutland business community as a whole. We are therefore very pleased that Norlys has chosen to install electric truck chargers here, says Jeppe Faber, Senior Commercial Manager at Port of Aalborg.
In addition to the agreement on the truck charging station, Norlys and Port of Aalborg have also agreed that Norlys will take over operation of Port of Aalborg’s public charging stations for passenger vehicles at the East Port. The 20 charging points will now become part of the Norlys charging network and can be accessed via app, key fob, or corporate agreements.
With the new charging station and this extended collaboration, Norlys and Port of Aalborg are creating a strong, locally anchored platform for the electrification of both light and heavy road transport.
