CEO Kristian Thulesen Dahl believes we should not only get lost in the barriers that the Port Partnership report outlines as challenges for commercial ports.
This week, the government’s Port Partnership published its long-awaited report with recommendations for development of Danish ports on market terms with a focus on securing commercial investments and green growth.
Kristian Thulesen Dahl, CEO of Port of Aalborg, says about the report:
‘The report maps the current situation of the country’s ports and identifies several growth barriers that must be overcome in order for the ports to realise their full potential. At Port of Aalborg, we welcome the report and its purpose. It contains many exciting perspectives that we look forward to exploring in depth.
“Of course, there are also areas where we can benefit from becoming a little sharper. For example, in relation to the mapping of the commercial ports’ starting points and potentials. We are well on our way with the report, but it is crucial that we are fully aware of the ports’ strengths when making national decisions so that we as a nation can ensure the necessary infrastructure to meet future needs in the production, storage and shipping of wind turbines, PtX, CCS and generally green transport.
“At the same time, I think it’s important that we don’t just get lost in barriers to growth. We must also remember to utilise the opportunities we already have. Through close co-operation with business and authorities, many things can be done if we have the right mindset. We have proven this time and time again in Aalborg – most recently in connection with the expansion at Siemens, where 400,000 square metres were made ready for the international wind player in just two years thanks to good cooperation between municipality, authority, company and port.
“We look forward to continuing the dialogue and, not least, to actively contributing to realising the needs of the future. We have the will, the partners and, not least, the space to play a significant role in the Danish port infrastructure.
