With several hundred thousand cubic metres of oil storage, Port of Aalborg has enormous storage capacity on both sides of the Limfjord and constitutes a critical infrastructure for retail fuel in North Jutland. In addition to retail, the largest commercial oil depot in Port of Aalborg facilitates storage capacity for both diesel and the new ultra-low sulphur heavy fuel oils for shipping. Consequently, in Aalborg you can avail of an abundance of cubic metres and an ideal location for storing liquid bulk that includes a nearby foam suppression station.

The green fuel of the future

The ideally situated tank facilities with established infrastructure is optimal for storing the green fuels of the future, including Power-to-X. Aalborg is a powerhouse within Power-to-X specifically and energy technology in general, aided by among others world-leading research centres at Aalborg University and a visionary industry that deals with both the development and testing of Power-to-X and fuel cell technology.

Port of Aalborg has entered into a partnership with European Energy concerning the realisation of a large Power-to-X plant at the East Port to produce green e-methanol for use in the transport sector. The plant, aimed at producing 75,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually, will be commissioned as early as 2025.

Safety in the centre

In 2020, the Oil terminal acquired a brand new, modern foam pump station that meets the latest standards and at a minimum ensures our safety for the next 25 years. The risk of ever needing the foam station is minute, as the modern tank facilities incorporate extensive safety measures, thus the risk of fire is minimal. The foam pump station provides an extra layer of security and safety that we will probably never need.
