Extensive activity in the East Port business park has led to Port of Aalborg acquiring almost 500,000 m2 of land from Aalborg Portland.
Development is in full swing in the East Port. The business sector is developing rapidly due to the growth of many companies. Some expand, while others need to change and new ones arrive.
– Development projects and companies within green transition are booming, which requires space. Consequently, we are now expanding our landholding by 500,000 m2, which we have acquired from our good neighbour, Aalborg Portland, says Kristian Thulesen Dahl, CEO of Port of Aalborg.
The wind energy sector is thriving in Aalborg with major international frontrunners such as Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, Bladt Industries, BLAEST and numerous subcontractors. Moreover, Port of Aalborg has recently announced agreements for several new projects in the port area. These include the establishment of Denmark’s first large-scale CO2 reception plant from Fidelis New Energy and the relocation of Aalborg University’s test facility to realise the large-scale production of future green fuels such as e-methanol and hydrogen. Furthermore, a large PtX plant is also being established for the production of among others green aviation fuel.
– I am incredibly pleased that this deal for half a million square metres has succeeded, as vast expanses are a basic premise if such projects are to be realised at all. We must have space available so that we can accommodate our customers’ requirements when they need it, and not at an indeterminable time horizon off in the future. It is crucial for the companies that we can provide what they need so they can keep up with market developments,” says Kristian Thulesen Dahl.
The purchase agreement is in place, and the next step is the detailed planning for the use of the area and the projects that are in the pipeline. This process is already commencing over the summer.
